Relax and Unwind

Relax and Unwind

ways-to-relax.jpg

When it gets into the winter months, I find myself wanting to go out less, and wanting to stay in and be cosy way more. The thought of going outside when it's dark, wet and windy makes me shiver, and all I want to do from November to February is stay home and watch TV.

With that in mind, I thought I'd share my top tips for staying home and relaxing!

  • A cup of tea and a magazine

Hardly a revolutionary idea, is it? The reason this makes the list is because it's literally my go-to way to relax if I don't have a lot of time. When I need to clear my mind for a little bit, making a cup of tea in my favourite mug and get out a magazine is a 5 minute fix to recharge. Magazines are my vice, and I read pretty much every popular monthly, but recently my absolute favourite is Hello Fashion Monthly. To me, it's the perfect middle ground between high street and high end. I can browse the things I can actually afford and drool over the things I'd love to be able to afford. They also have great, interesting interviews with such a diverse group of people. Win.

  • A hot bath

Again, nothing new here. But baths are a rare treat for me. Showers are just much more convenient, especially when your hair is as long as mine. Sometimes a bath is just necessary though, and there's nothing better than lighting some candles, popping some music on, and spending half an hour soaking the stress of the day of the way. Being in such an active job means I have quite a lot of aches and pains, especially in my lower back, and hot baths are perfect for dealing with these little niggles. I'm obsessed with the Clarins Relax Bath and Shower Concentrate. It smells like a spa, creates lovely bubbles, and makes my skin feel soft, smooth and nourished. And it's only £20!

  • Face

Something else I do rarely, but am making the effort to do more is take time to put effort into my skin. I do the usual things, cleansing and moisturising every day, but I've been putting more effort into my face, mostly by using every face mask under the sun. It's something I find weirdly relaxing (especially if paired with the cup of tea and magazine I was talking about). I recently wrote something about my favourite new(ish) Body Shop mask, which you can read here. My other mask obsession right now comes thanks to L'oreal. The Pure Clay Facial Masks are amazing in general, but the Detox Mask is by far my favourite. I've never used a mask that pulled out any and all impurities as quickly as this one did. It was amazing and gross at the same time, but my skin looked so improved after one use that I've gone through a jar and a half already.

  • New PJ's and an early night

If there's two things my friends will tell anyone about me, the first is that my perfect gift is a new pair of pyjamas. The second is to never ever wake me up when I'm asleep. I'm definitely not a morning person, and love nothing more than being tucked up in bed with my new pyjamas, clean sheets and a book. In winter it's all about long sleeves and thick material, and my favourite pair are these White Company ones, which I got for Christmas last year. Although not available any more, these ones look lovely too. White Company pyjamas might be a little more pricey, but they are definitely worth a little splurge. My other essential for a great night's sleep? The Deep Sleep Pillow Spray from This Works. I'm really not a fan of lavender, but for some reason at bedtime it just works. A quick spray of this on my pillow and I'm out like a light.

And that's it! The four little ways I relax during busy weeks. They don't take long, they can all (mostly) be done at the same time, and none of them cost much money. If any!

Do you have favourite ways to relax? What are they?
